The lime N' Dine feature highlights restaurants around the BVI. It not intended to be a restaurant review but more of a personal dining experience of the writer.

Sushi at the Yacht Club
- Claudia Colli
For years, one of my big treats when I went off island was to have sushi at a Japanese restaurant. This light and exotic dish, which is often comprised of fish rolled in a wrapper of white rice and seaweed, is not to everyone's taste. But for aficionados there is nothing better.
Fortunately for Japanese food lovers, the Royal BVI Yacht Club began to serve the dish on Thursdays several years ago, so those looking for sushi no longer have to travel abroad for their fix. Nancy Trautrim is the guru behind the Yacht Club's sushi. Utilizing her access to fresh fish, Nancy creates sushi that is authentic and inventive. Helping her is a team of assistants who may not be Japanese, but who nonetheless seem to have some Japanese DNA running through their blood.
It seems that I'm not the only sushi aficionado on island, and on Thursdays, the Yacht Club generally bustles. Patrons fill out a menu form choosing from a variety of selections including miso soup, tempura, sashimi and small and large sushi rolls. The form is passed on to the sushi prep table at the middle of the room. Here, at the center of the action, around a half dozen assistants, slice, chop, assemble and roll - and before you can say "arigato" - Japanese for thank you - a plate of well-presented sushi is on the table.
Among my favorites are the Spicy Crunch Kali (crunchy tempura crisps and spicy miso sauce) and the Sesame Salmon Inside-out (avocado, cucumber, toasted black and white sesame seeds). I usually order wakame (seaweed salad) on the side. Many sushi dishes feature raw fish, but others, might include cooked shrimp, crab and vegetables like avocado, cucumber and bell pepper. Whether I eat it in or take it out, it's nice to know that I can now have my sushi, without leaving Tortola.
