The lime N' Dine feature highlights restaurants around the BVI. It not intended to be a restaurant review but more of a personal dining experience of the writer.

We hope you find this feature both interesting and helpful.

The View from Bananakeet

- By Claudia Colli

View of Carrot, Apple, Long Bay

To say that Bananakeet at the Heritage Inn is a restaurant with a view is an understatement. From its open-air dining balcony, guests are treated to a dramatic panorama of Tortola's north shore bays. Like a virtual postcard, Carrot, Apple, Long Bay and Smugglers Cove stretch out into the distance with St. Thomas and St. John trailing behind.

The restaurant, which is owned by Christina Washburn and her mother, Beverly Martin, is celebrating its fourth anniversary this Christmas Eve, and in celebration there will be some new dinner items on the menu, along with an expanded Happy Hour bar snack menu.

The meals are prepared by Willan Mitchell, also known as "Spice," who brings the flavors of his home island of Grenada to the Windy Hill restaurant. Some of Chef Spice's most popular items include the Grilled New York Strip; the Sesame Seared Tuna and the Herb Encrusted Rack of Lamb. New menu items include a variety of stir fries and pasta dishes. For those venturing up the hill for happy hour (4-5:30pm), there are an array of bar snacks such as Sunshine Dipped Tamarind Hot Wings, Super Sunset Nachos and Windy Hill Fish Tacos.

On Sundays, brunch is served from 10am to 2 pm and a Pimms Cocktail is served with the entrČe, which includes French toast or pancakes, as well as eggs benedict; omelets and tasty sandwiches. The restaurant will also be featuring some new South African wines that guests can feel really good about drinking, since $1.00 from every bottle sold is donated to VISAR (Virgin Islands Search and Rescue).

On Wednesday and Friday, Ruben, one of the BVI's most talented musicians, entertains guests with his 12 string guitar and sultry range of blues, jazz and oldies. Whether Ruben is playing or not, enjoying happy hour or a meal at Bananakeet is a great way to round out the day. And of course, there is also the view.
