The lime N' Dine feature highlights restaurants around the BVI. It not intended to be a restaurant review but more of a personal dining experience of the writer.

We hope you find this feature both interesting and helpful.

Peg Legs at Nanny Cay

- By Claudia Colli

Pusser's East

A lot new is happening at Peg Leg's Landing, the open-air waterside restaurant at Nanny Cay that opened its doors in 1980. First it got a new look – a lighter color scheme, a cushy lounge for cocktails and a new mirrored bar. Long a favorite of boaters docking at the marina, Peg Leg's many new features are designed to attract residents looking for a restaurant on the water close to town.

"It now has a nice bright atmosphere," says manager Gary Roy, who has been at Peg Leg's for close to a year. He explains that in addition to the new décor, the menu with the help of chef Vaughn Grant has also received an upgrade by adding a new twist to many old favorites.

There are staples like rib eye steak, pork tenderloin, pizza, pasta and rotis, but also some surprises like chicken and mushroom pie and mango slaw salad made from green mango and christophene, cilantro, scotch bonnet peppers and cashews. The night that I was there, seared duck breast and roasted leg of lamb medallions were on the menu. Each was served with sautéed vegetables and a choice of roasted potatoes or risotto. We chose the roasted potatoes, but may go for the risotto next time.

Starting in October, the restaurant will be serving a new lunch and expanded dinner menu. The beach bar, a popular Friday nightspot has also received an upgrade. A larger roof will keep patrons dry during a passing shower or cool in the midday sun. Chair swings and new outdoor furniture are going to be added – and starting next Friday Sept 28th Two Smooth will be providing their brand of mellow reggae, jazz and popular tunes.

A few more items are planned for later in the year, says Gary. This includes an outdoor grill at the beach bar, where grilled items like chicken and ribs will be served. Yet another reason to make the trip from town – or West End or East End for that matter.
