The lime N' Dine feature highlights restaurants around the BVI. It not intended to be a restaurant review but more of a personal dining experience of the writer.
We hope you find this feature both interesting and helpful.
Rum Inspired Dining at Pussers Landing
- Ben Robbins
Sucking down my coke from a plastic cup filled to the brim I studied the Pusser's Landing menu carefully. But after my stomach grumbled for the eighth time I knew I needed sustenance, which is why I had intently walked down the street to Soper's Hole anyway, well, that and to take advantage of their WiFi. Without much hesitation I told the waitress to bring me The Captain's Burger, the sound of a nice, big, fat, juicy hamburger with a coke and fries sounded like just what the doctor ordered to cure a case of hunger.
As I waited for my beef, I looked out into Soper's Hole. Vintage and modern looking sailboats of different sizes were docked tightly into their slips or anchored farther out in the bay. Most of the patrons at the restaurant seemed to be visitors to the island, arriving in zodiacs motored from their ships or walking down the docks from their slips, and I could tell the entrée descriptions on the menu were geared to both the non-islander and local crowd.
Among the many selections were a few varieties of fresh fish cooked with a variety of Pusser's brand spices and chutneys "made from Down Island and Jamaican recipes that have been handed down through generations."The "pineapple ginger grilled chicken breast"and "the down island baby back ribs"are two of the proclaimed "Landing Favorites"and should entice plenty of hungry sailors. Pussers's also puts their spin on shrimp, herb roasted rack of lamb, and a blackened New York Strip steak. If you aren't full by the time your entrée's finished, Pusser's has four Caribbean desserts that should top you off. And for an after dinner drink, a variety of specialty coffees and cocktails are available.
A more elegant dining experience awaits you in the upstairs restaurant with its balcony overlooking the harbor. The upstairs décor is nautical and its menu includes a combination of Caribbean and international dishes. The emphasis is on seafood and grilled meats with a host of entrees that includes Chicken Marsala, Grilled Lobster, Thai Curry Chicken or Shrimp and a variety of pastas. Favorite appetizers are conch fritters and fried calamari and you can cap off the meal with a waist-expanding desert such as coconut cheesecake, mud pie and key lime pie.
