The lime N' Dine feature highlights restaurants around the BVI. It not intended to be a restaurant review but more of a personal dining experience of the writer.

We hope you find this feature both interesting and helpful.

The Trellis Kitchen

Trellis Kitchen diners

The Trellis Kitchen and Cyber Café is often referred to as the "unofficial airport departure lounge" because of its proximity to Terrence B. Lettsome Airport - and it certainly is the perfect spot to while away time as you wait for a delayed flight. But even if you are not flying out of Beef Island, the Trellis Kitchen, located on seagrape lined Trellis Bay, is a great place to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner.

The "Home of the Awesome Sandwich" is how owner Jeremy Wright describes his restaurant by the sea. The sandwiches made with fresh seven-grain bread and Jeremy's special sauce feature a unique array of fillings including smoked wahoo and calamari, open-faced sandwiches such as a Croque Madam (grilled ham and fried egg with Gruyere cheese) or a Croque Monsieur (no egg).

There is also chicken and calamari salads, chicken stir-fry and pizza by the slice, among other lunch offerings. The dinner menu includes: jerk or curried chicken, baby back ribs and crab cakes, as well as stewed pork, curried goat, and a catch of the day dinners. Other local specialties include hearty soups and the Caribbean-inspired pepperpot.

Owner, Jeremy Wright, a boardsailor turned restaurateur, launched his Cyber Café five years ago as an offshoot of his water sports business, Boardsailing BVI. Starting out with a tiny kitchen and one staff member, his initial aim was to provide Internet access, along with good wholesome sandwiches and fresh fruit smoothies to yachtsmen needing to connect with the world. The sandwiches, though, took on a popularity of their own, and Jeremy eventually expanded the restaurant side with additional options. "We are trying to utilize locally grown produce wherever possible," he says. He gets his fish from nearby Sailor's Ketch and sources fresh fruit for his smoothies and fresh seasonal produce.

Trellis Bay's monthly Fire Ball parties are among the islands' most popular activities. The parties feature Mocko Jumbies, and Aragorn Dick-Read's famed fire sculptures, which burn brightly on the shore's edge each full moon as well as at Trellis's annual blast on New Year's Eve. The Trellis Kitchen is open year-round, a special plus for island residents looking for a fun hangout and good food in the off-season.
