The Famous Awesome Sandwich at Trellis Kitchen

To call enjoying a meal at the Trellis Kitchen on Beef Island “one of life’s little pleasures” is an understatement. The sea just feet away, a fabulous Caribbean view and a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere where I can comfortably linger for hours is a draw I cannot resist. Besides ordering a meal, one can listen to music, either live or alternative, access the cyber world through the Internet, read in a nearby hammock or lime with friends.
I first tried one of the Trellis Kitchen’s FAS (Famous Awesome Sandwiches), specifically the mahi mahi, and have never looked back. To begin with, it’s huge, covering most of the plate, and made with warm toasted thickly sliced seven-grain bread. The mahi mahi is cooked to perfection with sweet roasted peppers, lettuce, tomato and cucumber and a special sauce that Micky D’s would covet.
This super sandwich also comes in other varieties such as lobster, tuna, flying fish, snapper, veggie, and chicken, but I have yet to betray my first love. The Trellis Bay Kitchen serves breakfast, lunch and dinner including daily soup specials and Caribbean specialties such as jerk chicken and curried goat. Some have called the FAS “the best I’ve ever had” and proprietor Jeremy Wright was once requested to FedEx one of the sandwiches to New York. No surprise to me but I prefer them seaside.
