The lime N' Dine feature highlights restaurants around the BVI. It not intended to be a restaurant review but more of a personal dining experience of the writer.
We hope you find this feature both interesting and helpful.
Brunch At The Watermark
- By Claudia Colli
Perched on the eastern-most point of Frenchman's Cay, the Watermark restaurant is one of the island's most pleasurable spots to have Sunday brunch. The dining room, with its high roof and elegant but comfy furniture, looks out onto the hotel's pool, umbrella-like seagrape trees and sandy beach.
The menu contains something for both brunch purists (the omelet and French Toast contingent), as well as for those who'd rather skip the eggs and go straight for the seafood. For the breakfast folks though, the menu offers a twist on the traditional. Eggs and Pork Belly (a thick cut of bacon) served with a healthy portion of white beans will make the Full English Breakfast crowd happy, as will the French Toast (actually a banana rum brioche), which is rich and filling. There is Steak and Eggs for those wanting a big protein jolt, and for seafood lovers, the Bouillabaisse has a following from as far away as St. John and St. Thomas. A Pulled Pork Sandwich is nicely embellished with four onion marmalade and manchego and is served with pommes frites, while a Gazpacho with Crab and Avocado, and a Roasted Beet Salad with Goat Cheese Mousse and Candied Walnut Vinaigrette offer variations on the standard soup and salad. A selection of decadent desserts caps it all off.
The Watermark, which opened in December, is run by Scott Hart and Paloma Helm, who also own the popular Dove restaurant in Road Town. Scott, who was in the restaurant business in Canada before coming to the BVI in 2002, met the BVI-born Paloma shortly after his arrival and the two teamed up to start the Dove in 2003. The couple puts youthful energy into both restaurants and the results show. Dinner at the Watermark offers the same gracious atmosphere as brunch and features a similar, but more extensive, Mediterranean-inspired menu with a twinkling nighttime ambiance.
